Langebaan is situated about 130 km north of Cape Town. Thanks to its turquoise lagoon, it is the playground for water lovers and the most famous destination for all water sports.
But most importantly, it is a kite surfers’ paradise as it has all-year sunshine, safe waters and steady winds. The fabulous lagoon is adjacent to the West Coast National Park, where kite surfers, windsurfers, kayakers, water skiers, and motorboaters can get their money’s worth.
Langebaan is also well-known for its spring ‘carpet’ of flowers that follow the coastline and birders’ paradise with the Flamingo birding route.
There is also a lot to do for non-water sports enthusiasts. For example, you could visit the West Coast National Park with its unique flora and fauna and unique animals, Thali Thali game lodge, or the cultural centre of the indigenous people (San)!Kwah TTU.

Bernie’s parents live in Langebaan, so we often visit this beautiful place.
The last time we were there, we came across this self-catering establishment called Gust House, developed initially to cater to kite surfers’ accommodation needs. However, the new owners recently made changes to make the establishment more welcoming to all holidaymakers.
Gust House is a self-catering establishment in the heart of Langebaan.
This fabulous self-catering establishment offers spectacular ocean views from the rooftop terrace and is a mere 50 metres from Langebaan’s main beach. There are many famous cafés and restaurants within walking distance.
The property offers three unique accommodation types to cater for individual and group needs.
This property is every kite surfer’s dream! It has a comfortable lounge with a workspace area. It has a complete kitchen with a stove, hob, and fridge. There is an outside seating area with lovely barbeque (braai) facilities overlooking the ocean. It also has an outdoor shower with warm water.
It also offers a dry area and storage space for sports equipment
There are four rooms with bunkbeds, each with lockup drawers. The communal bathroom consists of four showers, three toilets and three vanities.
The house is ideal for large groups, backpackers, or individuals wishing to share accommodation with other kite surfers. It can comfortably sleep 14 adults.
This section can be accessed from the main road through a private gate. It leads directly from the garden to four well-appointed rooms with barbeque facilities and several seating areas, including a spectacular rooftop seating area from which you can enjoy fabulous sunsets.
Two rooms have twin beds, the other has a double bed, and the main bedroom has a King-size bed. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and a kitchenette.
The entire property has Wi-fi throughout.
The cottage comprises two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The cosy and tastefully furnished additional cottage can accommodate up to 5 people.
It has a separate entrance. The self-contained cottage is perfect for small families.
It offers a mezzanine bedroom with a King-size bed and a bathroom. On the ground floor are the living room, a fully equipped open-plan kitchen, a second bathroom and a bedroom with a double bed and an additional single bed. There is an outside seating area. The cottage comes with remote control operated gate (inside) parking space.
The open-plan lounge and kitchen comprise a stove, hob, washing machine, and seating area.
The cottage has an outside seating area with a Weber griller (braai). It also offers a storage locker and wash-up area for sporting equipment.
The rooms are cleaned twice weekly. This is when towels and linen are exchanged. There are adequate safe (lockable) storage facilities for sporting equipment, including space to clean sporting equipment after use.
Each of the three areas has dedicated barbeque areas with seating areas. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a beautiful sunset sheltered from the wind.
The host offers special rates (on request) for long-term stays. The owners made a special arrangement with Eric from Die Kyjirhuys, a nearby restaurant, to provide breakfast and other meals to their guests. You can order meals and have them delivered to the house on request.
Gust house is 1 hour and 35 minutes from Cape Town International Airport (approximately 135 km).
According to our Langebaan insider Lene Stuart, the best time to visit is from February until May.
During these months it is less windy and they have the best warm sunny days.
The review is intended to assist you in planning a trip to Gust House, Langebaan, near Cape Town.
The self-catering establishment’s best features are its location, private garden with barbeque facilities, and ample space for sports equipment.
The hosts are super friendly and accommodating. However, there are strict house rules (which can be viewed on their website).
