Sustainable Travel
The word “overtourism” is a relatively new term, but its novelty has not diminished its significance. Overtourism refers to excessive tourism to a popular destination or attraction, which often damages the local environment and historical sites and results in a poorer quality of life for residents.
As travel recovers from pandemic lows, travellers are once again experiencing the consequences of over-tourism in enticing but crowded destinations.
Sustainable tourism refers to engaging travellers and the travel industry at large in supporting goals that include protecting the environment, addressing climate change, minimising plastic consumption, and expanding economic development in communities affected by tourism.
