12-day Itinerary for the Kruger National Park and Cape Town
Our Kruger and Cape Town tour promises up-close Big Five encounters, breathtaking landscapes and stylish accommodations.
We prioritise relaxing beach days, enriching wildlife encounters, and exceptional culinary experiences.
*Please note that the order of stays and activities may change at the discretion of the tour guides (Petra and Bernie). To give you the best experience at each location, we consider weather conditions for each activity and, therefore, may move activities around.
Day 1: Arrive in Johannesburg at OR Tambo International Airport
Johannesburg, also known as the City of Gold, is a vibrant metropolis and the capital of Gauteng Province. It is also the starting point of our Kruger and Cape Town trip. If you plan on arriving a day or two before our trip starts, we suggest reading our arti“le “Top 5 suggestions for a city break in Johannesburg.”
Drive: OR Tambo → Kruger National Park. Depending on when we leave the airport, we may enter Kruger at the Phabeni Gate or Malelane Gate.
- The tour starts with a pick-up from OR Tambo International Airport.
- Meet your travel buddies, Bernie and Petra, upon arrival.
- Drive to Kruger National Park.
- Quick body break or luncMillie’slie’s (time permitting to reach the gate in time).
- Late afternoon, we enter Kruger.
- Check into Skukuza Rest Camp for two nights.
- Sundowners at a viewpoint or in camp.
Day 2: Game Viewing near Skukuza
Skukuza is the largest rest camp in Kruger and the administrative capital of the game reserve. It is situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River. the area is famous for the large concentration of animals, particularly elephants. - Leave camp early for our first morning game drive.
- Brunch at Nkhulu picnic spot.
- Swimming and cooling off at the pool before the afternoon game drive.
- Sundowners at a special viewpoint.
- Night Game drive with SANParks game vehicle and guides.
- Din‘er: ‘Braai at’camp’.
- Stay: Skukuza Rest Camp.
Day 3: Olifants Camp

Oliphants camp (meaning elephants) lies in the east of the Kruger National Park, more or less in the centre. The closest main camps to Olifants Camp are Satara and Letaba. The camp is located on top of a hill and overlooks the Olifants River. Elephants Camp is extremely popular, and therefore, it is difficult to find accommodation for it. As we make reservations well in advance, our small group tour ladies stay in the best accommodation Olifants has to offer.
Drive: Skukuza → Olifants Rest Camp via the H1-4
- Leave Skukuza Camp early in the morning to drive to Olifants Camp (146 km). This is a great opportunity to enjoy game viewing all day and visit a few camps en route.
- Our first stop is at Tshokwane Picnic spot, where we enjoy a scrumptious meal prepared by your travel buddies, Bernie and Petra.
- Late afternoon Check-in: Olifants Camp
- Enjoy a relaxing evening with fun and laughter (and a few glasses of wine) and a lovely camp dinner (prepared by Bernie and Petra).
Day 4: Olifants Rest Camp
- Early morning Riverwalk with SANParks guide. This is one of the most sought-after activities in the Kruger National Park, offered only by a few camps).
- Lunch: either at Satara Rest Camp or a picnic spot
- Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in camp and cool off in the pool.
- Afternoon game drive near camp.
- Sunset game drive with SanParks
- Din‘er: ‘Braai in’camp’
- Stay: Olifants Camp
Day 5: Secret location and Blyde River Canyon

Drive: Olifants → Orpen Gate → Blyde River Canyon
- Leave Olifants Camp very early and enjoy a morning game drive en route to Open Gate.
- Breakfast at a SURPRISE location.
- Surprise Activity.
- Leave mid-day to vGod’sGod’s Window and Three Rondawels.
- Stay at our Secret Location.
- Evening River Cruise on the Blyde River in the canyon.
- Group dinner at the lodge.
Day 6: Fly to Cape Town
Cape Town is known as the Mother City and has been voted several times the best city in the world. We visit many iconic landmarks and also take you to several secret locations—locals are hesitant to share because they fear an influx of tourists. If you promise not to tell, we will take you there!
Drive: Blyde River Canyon → OR Tambo International Airport
- Breakfast at the lodge.
- Leave after breakfast and make our way to OR Tambo International Airport.
- Stop at a well-known farm stall en-route to OR Tambo airport (time permitting).
- Catch our late afternoon flight to Cape Town to start our next adventure.
- Evening: Arrive at our hotel in Sunset Beach.
- Enjoy a welcome snack upon arrival.
Day 7: Explore Cape Town

- Table Mountain with Cable Car (weather permitting)
- V&A Waterfront (shopping & exploring)
- Old Biscuit Mill (time permitting)
- Walk the Camps Bay strip or enjoy some beach time

Day 8: Cape Of Good Hope
Drive: Bloubergstrand → Cape of Good Hope
Full-day road-tripping:
(if time allows):
- Drive along the world-renoChapman’sman’s Peak Drive
- Visit Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve
- Get up close to penguins in Boulders Beach
- Shopping in Kalk Bay (if still open upon our arrival)
- Special dinner in Kalk Bay.
Day 9: Wine Farm Hopping
Drive: Bloubergstrand → Selected wine farms
- Rupert Wine Farm visit with VIP experience.
- Visit the Franschhoek Motor Museum.
- Afternoon Beach Walk and sundowners at a secluded beach in Melkbosstrand
- Dinner (not included): We can make recommendations and book a restaurant of your choice, or you may wish to enjoy dinner at a restaurant near our hotel.
Day 10: Bo-Kaap and surroundings
Walking Tour in Cape Town City Centre
- We participate in a few walking tours around Cape Town to explore some of the most significant sights and attractions.
- Lunch at a traditional Cape Malay restaurant. in Bo-Kaap
- Special Evening Dinner in Cape Town City Bowl.
Day 11: Langebaan
Langebaan is a coastal town about 120km from Cape Town. It has a magnificent beach and inland lagoon ideal for boating activities. The area is birders’ paradise with more than 250 bird species.
The West Coast National Park is set against the backdrop of the azure lagoon. There are many hiking and mountain biking routes, although one should be on the lookout for Cape Cobras, particularly amongst the Fynbos.
Drive: Bloubergstrand → Langebaan
- Explore the West Coast National Park.
- Enjoy a picnic on the seaside in West Coast National Park (secret location).
- Swim at Kraalbaai.
- Early dinner in Langebaan before driving back to our hotel in Sunset Beach.
Day 12: Tour Group Farewell
Drive: Bloubergstrand → Cape Town International Airport
- Depart from Cape Town International Airport and fly home after an unforgettable holiday.
- Members who have a late evening flight can do a helicopter trip over Cape Town. (POR), or Tandem Paraglide from Signal Hill (POR).
