ToggleThe Kruger National Park allows you to discover the wonders of Southern Africa throughout the year.
Kruger has a hot-subtropical climate, with an average temperature of approximately 25 degrees throughout the year.
What is the weather like in winter in the Kruger National Park?
From April to October, the dry season welcomes visitors with open arms. During this time, the landscape becomes ‘flatter’ and more open, offering increased visibility, especially in the vast grassy areas of the south.
The dry winter months are best for game viewing due to the shorter grass, lack of foliage and limited water, forcing the wildlife to concentrate around the remaining waterholes. With average temperatures ranging from a minimum of 9 degrees to a maximum of 28 degrees in August, it’s the perfect time to explore and immerse yourself in Africa’s wonders.
What is the weather like in summer in the Kruger National Park?
You can experience wonderful summer days and evenings in the Kruger National Park from November to March. Despite the rainy season, you’ll be treated to an incredible surge of new wildlife and thriving waterholes.
Many species give birth to their offspring in late September, at the start of the rainy season, making the bush teem with abundant new life. During this time, you can expect lush bush veld scenery and vibrant bird life, including migrant species, to leave you in awe. Remember that summer can get scorching hot, especially in the northern region, with temperatures reaching a sizzling 34 degrees or much higher in January and February. From December to March, expect brief, late afternoon thundershowers that clear up within an hour.
